2012-2013 President's Message

This year as we begin our twelfth year of service I hope that we all can take a moment to realize just how much we are blessed.  We live in a free country.  We are able to worship as we see fit.  We have enough food and clean water.  We have educational opportunities and health care.  We are safe in our city and enjoy a high standard of living.  May we never take these blessings for granted.

Because we are a blessed I believe we are expected to help others.  This shouldn’t be seen as a burden.  In my mission travels as well as with volunteerism at home I have had the opportunity to know firsthand how wonderful service can be.  One’s intentions may be to serve others, but without fail there seems to also be blessings received. What better way of living than working to make our world a little better, living as examples to our children and grandchildren, and having the satisfaction of a job done to the best of our abilities.  By striving to be a blessing to others we are blessed ourselves!   GFWC Legacy has opportunities to touch many in need in our community – from the wonderful residents of Jehovah Jireh to the students of the fledgling new Lincoln Academy, from the veterans at Tut Fann Home to the victims of domestic violence at Hope Place, from the women committed to improving their station in life at the Christian Women’s Job Corp to supporting our own Serenity Juniorettes as they learn the importance of leadership and volunteerism.  We will even have the opportunity to help support the artisans of Apparent Project as they work to keep their children and work their way out of the tent cities of Haiti.

I hope that you each will renew your commitment to GFWC Legacy.  Not only will you be a blessing to the ones that we serve but by working side by side we will be a blessing to each other.  Please make Legacy a priority.  I urge you to enter all of the dates from the Legacy calendar into your personal calendar so that you can look forward to the upcoming service and social opportunities.  If you see that one of our fellow club sisters has missed a few meetings I hope that you make an effort to contact her and encourage her to participate and let her know that she has been missed.

Together we are few in number but we are mighty in abilities and spirit.  I know that we can make a difference in our community and will reap many blessings besides!

Anne Peters
